Summary

Ray Lutz of Citizens Oversight.org explains how to use a digital video camera to video record public meetings. Demonstration includes set up of the tripod, use of wide-angle lens, loading tape, rewinding, start/stop recording, zoom, and controls of aCanon Optura 50 video camera.

Ray recommends that you record only about 55 to 58 minutes per tape so they can be uploaded to services like Blip.tv, which are limited to 1GB per video. The video can be easily broken into segments with only one tape per segment for long meetings.

Finally, Ray demonstrates the set up of a wired lavalier microphone for recording higher-quality audio esp. for single speakers in large facilities where the internal microphone will pick up a lot of room noise.
